Quick answer
A REACH SDS for hazardous products is the 16-section safety data sheet that must be supplied with any substance or mixture classified as hazardous under CLP in the EU, or GB CLP in Great Britain. We classify your product, write the SDS to REACH Annex II and add ADR transport data. From £45, with Priority Delivery in 24 hours.
What's included in your REACH SDS for hazardous products
| Document | What it is |
|---|---|
| CLP / GB CLP classification | Health, physical and environmental hazards, using EU harmonised and GB mandatory classifications |
| REACH Annex II SDS | 16 sections in the EU format (Regulation (EU) 2020/878) or the GB UK REACH format |
| Label elements | Pictograms, signal word, hazard and precautionary statements and EUH phrases for Section 2 |
| ADR transport data | UN number, proper shipping name, class and packing group, plus IMDG and IATA where relevant |
| PCN and UFI check | We confirm whether an EU Poison Centre Notification and UFI are also needed |
Who this REACH SDS service is for
- Brands placing hazardous mixtures on the EU or GB market
- Fragrance and home-fragrance brands with classified products
- Importers and downstream users who must supply an SDS under REACH
- Non-UK/EU manufacturers whose importer needs a compliant SDS
- Suppliers whose SDSs predate the 2020/878 EU format
- Businesses selling into both Great Britain and the EU
What this REACH SDS service does not include
- The PCN submission. We tell you if your mixture needs one; preparing the dossier, UFI and submission is a separate service: ECHA Poison Centre Notification (PCN).
- Products that are not hazardous. If your product is not classified under CLP or GB CLP, order a non-hazardous SDS for the UK and EU instead.
- US, Canadian and Australian formats. OSHA, WHMIS and Australian WHS SDSs are covered by our hazardous SDS for the USA, Canada and Australia.
- REACH registration or laboratory testing. We do not register substances or run tests; we work from your composition, supplier SDSs and physical data.
- A cosmetic safety assessment. A finished cosmetic needs a CPSR, not an SDS, to be sold legally; see CPSR for a beauty product.
How it works
- Fill our Product Information Document Or send your full composition with percentages, raw-material SDSs, physical data and the EU and UK countries you sell into.
- CLP or GB CLP classification We classify every hazard, check Poison Centre Notification needs and assess ADR, IMDG and IATA status.
- Annex II authoring We write all 16 sections in the EU 2020/878 format, the GB UK REACH format, or both.
- You receive your SDS Your REACH SDS arrives in 72, 48 or 24 hours, depending on the delivery option you choose.
What is a REACH SDS for hazardous products in the UK and EU?
A REACH SDS for hazardous products is the safety data sheet that Article 31 of REACH (Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006) requires a supplier to provide for every substance or mixture classified as hazardous under the CLP Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008. Great Britain applies the same duty through UK REACH and GB CLP. The SDS follows the 16-section format in REACH Annex II and gives the people who handle the product the information they need to protect health and the environment.
We classify your hazardous product under CLP or GB CLP, write the SDS to the correct Annex II version for each market, and complete the transport section for ADR road carriage, plus IMDG for sea and IATA for air where you need them.
REACH Annex II, CLP and GB CLP: EU and UK SDS requirements
EU requirements:
- When an SDS is required: under REACH Article 31(1), when a substance or mixture is classified as hazardous under CLP, or a substance is PBT, vPvB or on the Candidate List of substances of very high concern.
- Format: the 16 sections of REACH Annex II as amended by Commission Regulation (EU) 2020/878, which has applied since 1 January 2021; older-format SDSs could be supplied until 31 December 2022. The update added the UFI, nanoform details and endocrine-disrupting properties.
- Language: an official language of each member state where the product is placed on the market, unless that state allows otherwise (Article 31(5)).
- Updates: the SDS must be revised without delay when new hazard information becomes available, and sent free of charge to everyone supplied in the previous 12 months (Article 31(9)).
- New CLP hazard classes: Delegated Regulation (EU) 2023/707 added endocrine disruption, PBT/vPvB and PMT/vPvM hazard classes. They apply to new mixtures from 1 May 2026, and mixtures already on the market must be updated by 1 May 2028.
Great Britain requirements:
- UK REACH and GB CLP: the same Article 31 duty and 16-section structure apply, but EU amendments made after the UK left the EU, including Regulation (EU) 2020/878, do not apply in GB.
- Classification: under GB CLP, including the GB mandatory classification and labelling list maintained by HSE.
- Language: a GB SDS must be supplied in English.
- Northern Ireland: EU REACH and EU CLP continue to apply, so an SDS for Northern Ireland follows the EU format.
Transport (Section 14):
Road carriage in the EU and GB follows ADR, which GB applies through the Carriage of Dangerous Goods Regulations. Sea freight follows the IMDG Code and air freight the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations. We give the UN number, proper shipping name, transport hazard class and packing group.
Poison Centre Notification:
In the EU, a mixture classified for health or physical hazards also needs a Poison Centre Notification and, in most cases, a UFI on the label under CLP Article 45 and Annex VIII. This is separate from the SDS; we flag it when it applies.
Cosmetics and fragrance materials:
Finished cosmetic products are outside the REACH SDS duty (Article 2(6)(b)) and outside CLP (Article 1(5)(c)). Fragrance oils, reed diffuser liquids, room sprays and cosmetic raw materials are not, and alcohol-based perfumes remain dangerous goods in transport, so carriers ask for an SDS with full transport data.
What we need to prepare your REACH SDS
- Full composition: every ingredient with its CAS or EC number and percentage or range.
- Supplier SDSs: for each raw material, ideally in the current EU or GB format.
- Physical data: physical state, flash point and pH, where you have them.
- Product details: product name, intended use, packaging and pack sizes.
- Markets and Section 1 details: the EU member states and/or Great Britain you sell into, the EU or GB supplier to name on the SDS, and its emergency telephone number.
Legal framework
- REACH Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006, Article 31: the duty to supply an SDS for hazardous substances and mixtures, the language rule (31(5)) and the update duty (31(9)).
- REACH Annex II, as amended by Commission Regulation (EU) 2020/878: the EU 16-section SDS format, applicable since 1 January 2021.
- CLP Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008: EU classification and labelling, extended with new hazard classes by Delegated Regulation (EU) 2023/707.
- UK REACH and GB CLP: the versions of Regulations 1907/2006 and 1272/2008 that apply in Great Britain.
- CLP Article 45 and Annex VIII: EU Poison Centre Notification and UFI for hazardous mixtures.
- ADR, IMDG Code and IATA DGR: dangerous goods transport by road, sea and air.

Frequently asked questions
What is a REACH SDS for hazardous products?
It is the 16-section safety data sheet that REACH Article 31 requires for substances and mixtures classified as hazardous under CLP. It follows the format in REACH Annex II and travels with the product through the supply chain.
Which standard must an SDS for hazardous products meet in the EU and UK?
In the EU, REACH Annex II as amended by Regulation (EU) 2020/878, with CLP classification. In Great Britain, the UK REACH Annex II format with GB CLP classification. Northern Ireland follows the EU rules.
Is an EU SDS valid in Great Britain?
Not automatically. Great Britain uses UK REACH and GB CLP, did not adopt Regulation (EU) 2020/878, and requires an English-language SDS based on GB classifications. We prepare the correct version for each market.
Does the SDS need to be in the local language?
In the EU, yes: REACH Article 31(5) requires an official language of each member state where the product is placed on the market, unless that state allows otherwise. In Great Britain, the SDS must be in English.
Do I also need a PCN and UFI for a hazardous mixture?
In the EU, usually yes. A mixture classified for health or physical hazards needs a Poison Centre Notification and, in most cases, a UFI on the label, separate from the SDS. We confirm whether your mixture is in scope.
Do you include ADR transport classification?
Yes. Section 14 gives the UN number, proper shipping name, transport hazard class and packing group under ADR, plus the IMDG Code for sea and IATA for air where relevant.
Do cosmetics need a REACH SDS?
Finished cosmetics are exempt from the REACH SDS duty under Article 2(6)(b). Fragrance oils and other hazardous cosmetic raw materials still need one, and carriers often ask for an SDS for alcohol-based perfumes, which are dangerous goods.
