Description
Lavender and vanilla is one of the most dependable pairings in perfumery: clean and herbal at the start, soft and warm at the finish. Code 1240 uses it for a feminine sweet floral elegant rather than sugary, and easy to like on first spray.
Lavender opens it. On its own it is the backbone of classic men's fougères, but here it is softened from the start: herbal, slightly camphorous and fresh, then quickly rounded by a soft floral heart that shifts the whole composition towards the feminine.
Vanilla carries the base, warm and creamy, and it is what gives 1240 its comfort and its staying power. The contrast does the work fresh herb against sweet warmth so the fragrance never feels flat or heavy.

Isn't lavender a men's note?
Traditionally it is the backbone of men's fougères. Paired with soft florals and vanilla it turns warm and feminine — the same combination behind many modern women's fragrances.
Which allergens will I need to declare?
Lavender is a natural source of linalool, and vanilla-style accords often contain coumarin both declarable allergens. The allergen declaration lists every one with its percentage; in a leave-on product, anything above 0.001% goes in your ingredient list. Great Britain uses the original 24-allergen list; EU products placed on the market from 31 July 2026 follow Regulation (EU) 2023/1545.
Can I describe my perfume as calming?
Describe the scent rather than an effect. "Calming" or "relaxing" implies a functional benefit that the Common Criteria for cosmetic claims (Regulation (EU) No 655/2013) require you to substantiate. "Soft", "warm" and "comforting" are safer words.
How does it compare with 1249 Sweet Marshmallow Vanilla?
1249 is a ready-mixed perfume built on marshmallow and orange blossom, bottled as supplied. 1240 is a perfume oil you dose into your own base, with lavender giving a fresh, herbal lift over the vanilla.
What concentration should I use?
15–22% in an alcohol-based eau de parfum, 0.5–2% in body cream and 1–3% in rinse-off. Check the IFRA certificate for the maximum in your product category.
