Description
An oriental rose normally puts incense in the heart and amber in the base. Code 1193 reverses it, so the fragrance is warm and glowing early and turns dry and smoky late an unusual arc, and the reason to choose this over a conventional rose-incense composition.
Grapefruit and bergamot open it bright and bitter. Grapefruit is the sharper of the two and it gives the entry an edge that suits the seriousness of what follows.
Rose and amber form the heart. Amber beside the rose rather than beneath it means the warmth is immediate the fragrance feels rich within minutes, and the rose reads as glowing rather than merely floral.
Incense and cedar close it. This is where the composition turns: dry, smoky and austere after a warm middle, which is the opposite of what most oriental roses do. Six materials in total, and the structure does all the work.
