Frequently asked questions

Straight answers to what brands ask us most.

Still have a question?

Send us your product details and a safety assessor will reply.

What is a cosmetic formulation review?

A cosmetic formulation review is an early check of a draft or existing formula against UK and EU ingredient rules, SCCS guidance and IFRA Standards. It identifies prohibited, restricted or over-limit ingredients and recommends how to fix them before a CPSR.

Should I choose a formulation review or formulation validation?

Choose a review if your formula may still change and you want problems found and fixed. Choose formulation validation if the formula is final and you need a documented pass before the CPSR.

How can I avoid my CPSR being delayed or rejected?

Check the formula before the safety assessment starts. Common causes of delay are banned ingredients, concentrations above Annex limits and missing fragrance or allergen data, which a formulation review identifies and explains how to correct.

Is my cosmetic formula compliant in the UK and EU?

It is compliant at ingredient level when nothing in it appears in Annex II and every restricted ingredient, colourant, preservative and UV filter is within its Annex III–VI limit and conditions for your product type.

What do I need to send you?

Your full formula with INCI names and exact percentages, the fragrance composition or IFRA certificate if the product is scented, and the product type and intended use. Supplier specifications help us check impurities.

Do you test the product in a laboratory?

No. A formulation review is a desk-based assessment of your formula and supplier data. Stability, challenge (preservative efficacy) and other laboratory tests are carried out separately.

How much does a formulation review cost and how long does it take?

A formulation review costs £50 with Standard Delivery (72 hours), £75 with Fast Delivery (48 hours) or £100 with Priority Delivery (24 hours).
