FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Straight answers to what brands ask us most.

Still have a question?

Send us your product details and a safety assessor will reply.

What is a Children's Product Certificate (CPC)?

A Children's Product Certificate is a written certificate, required by the CPSIA, in which the US importer or manufacturer certifies that a product for children aged 12 or under meets every applicable CPSC rule, based on third-party laboratory tests.

Who needs to issue a CPC?

The US importer, or the US manufacturer for products made in the US, must issue it. Non-US brands usually prepare the CPC with or for their importer, because the importer is legally responsible at entry.

Do I need a CPC to sell children's products on Amazon US?

Yes, if your product is a children's product covered by a CPSC rule. US law requires the certificate before import or sale, and Amazon commonly asks sellers of children's products for a CPC and test reports.

Is laboratory testing included in the price?

Laboratory testing is carried out and charged by the CPSC-accepted laboratory you use. Our price covers scoping the rules, reviewing the test reports and preparing the certificate.

How long does it take to get a CPC?

Once we have passing test reports, we prepare your CPC within 72 hours (Basic, £70), 48 hours (Standard, £100) or 24 hours (Premium, £150). Laboratory testing comes first and its timing depends on the lab.

Do children's cosmetics need a CPC?

Not for the cosmetic itself. Cosmetics are regulated by the FDA rather than the CPSC, but toys, accessories and other non-cosmetic items for children, including those in play-makeup kits, may need a CPC.

What information must a CPC contain?

Seven elements: product identification, each CPSC rule cited, importer or manufacturer details, the records contact, the date and place of manufacture, the date and place of testing, and the third-party laboratory.

What is CPSC eFiling?

Since 8 July 2026, importers must electronically file certificate data for CPSC-regulated products with US Customs and Border Protection at entry. The data matches the CPC, so an accurate certificate is the starting point.
