Description
Gourmands almost always open sweet. Code 1029 opens cool pear and iris, powdery and restrained and only becomes sweet in the heart. That inversion is what makes it feel more expensive than a typical praline fragrance.
Pear and iris open it soft and powdery. Iris in a gourmand top note is rare and clever: it gives the fragrance a cool, expensive entry and holds the sweetness back for a few minutes, which makes the arrival of the praline feel earned.
Praline and orange form the heart. Praline is caramelised nut sweet, buttery and warm and the orange cuts it just enough to stop it becoming heavy at this stage.
Patchouli and vanilla close it. Patchouli is the useful material here, adding earth under the sweetness so the drydown has depth rather than simply persisting. Comfortable, warm and repeat purchasable.

Questions about this oil
Why iris in a gourmand?
It gives the fragrance a cool, powdery entry and holds the sweetness back for a few minutes, which makes it feel more expensive than a gourmand that opens sweet.
What is praline?
Caramelised nut sweet, buttery and warm, somewhere between caramel and almond. It is one of the most commercially successful gourmand materials.
How does it compare with 1222 Honey Caramel?
1222 is far richer and higher impact, with honey, chocolate and rose. 1029 is lighter and more refined. 1029 for everyday, 1222 for a statement.
Is it too sweet for daytime?
The iris opening and patchouli base keep it balanced. It is warm rather than cloying and works for daytime at the lower dosage.
Will it discolour?
Yes praline, vanilla and patchouli are dark materials. Expect an amber tint.
