Quick answer

An Amazon EU SDS is a 16-section safety data sheet in the REACH Annex II format set by Regulation (EU) 2020/878, with CLP classification, which Amazon's EU stores request during dangerous goods (hazmat) review. REACH expects it in each selling country's official language. From £45; Priority Delivery is 24 hours.

Who this Amazon EU SDS is for

  • Sellers with an ASIN in hazmat review on Amazon.de, .fr, .it or .es
  • Sellers storing FBA stock in more than one EU country
  • UK brands expanding from Amazon.co.uk into the EU stores
  • Sellers holding only an English-language or US-format SDS
  • Home fragrance, cleaning and cosmetic brands selling across the EU

What this Amazon EU SDS does not include

  • A promise about Amazon's classification: each EU store's dangerous goods team decides how the ASIN is classified and where it can be stored. Our responsibility is a correct REACH-format SDS.
  • Submitting a Poison Centre Notification: where a hazardous non-cosmetic mixture needs a PCN and UFI, that is a separate filing — see ECHA PCN.
  • The Great Britain version: Amazon.co.uk needs a UK REACH and GB CLP sheet — see Amazon UK SDS.
  • Laboratory work: we do not measure flash points or produce UN 38.3 battery test summaries.
  • EU cosmetic obligations: a finished cosmetic also needs a Responsible Person and a CPNP notification — see EU Responsible Person & CPNP.

How it works

  1. Fill our Product Information Document Include your formula, supplier SDSs, the flagged ASINs and every EU country where the product is sold.
  2. CLP classification We classify the mixture under Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 and check whether a PCN would be triggered.
  3. Master SDS and language versions We prepare the 2020/878-format sheet and the translations your countries of sale require.
  4. Upload store by store Attach the right language version per store and ASIN; each marketplace then reaches its own decision.

What is an Amazon EU SDS?

An Amazon EU SDS is a European safety data sheet that follows Annex II of the EU REACH Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006, with hazard classification under the CLP Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008, for upload when one of Amazon's EU stores puts your product into dangerous goods (hazmat) review. Without it, the ASIN can stay blocked from sale or kept out of fulfilment centres in that country.

What sets the EU apart is language. REACH requires the SDS in an official language of each member state where the product is placed on the market, unless that country provides otherwise. Selling on Amazon.de, Amazon.fr and Amazon.it can therefore mean German, French and Italian versions of the same sheet.

How Amazon's EU dangerous goods review works

Products the EU stores commonly flag:

  • Alcohol-based fragrances and body mists, aerosols, nail products, essential oils, reed diffuser liquids and household cleaners.
  • ASINs flagged by listing content — wording in titles or attributes can trigger a review of a product that is not hazardous.

What the stores expect:

  • One document per flagged ASIN — an SDS, or Amazon's exemption sheet for products without hazardous chemicals.
  • A version for each country — keep the language version that matches the store and the country of sale.
  • Consistent identity — the trade name and brand on the SDS should be those on the detail page.

The outcome:

Amazon assigns a dangerous goods classification. A dangerous goods result can limit which fulfilment centres may hold the stock or keep it out of FBA. You can challenge a result you believe is wrong from Seller Central.

What EU law adds to the sheet:

  • 2020/878 format — the current Annex II has applied since 1 January 2021; older-format sheets could be supplied only until 31 December 2022.
  • UFI in subsection 1.1 — where a mixture has a UFI and it is shown on the SDS, it must appear in subsection 1.1.
  • PCN for hazardous mixtures — mixtures classified for health or physical hazards need a Poison Centre Notification under CLP Annex VIII. Finished cosmetics are outside CLP, so they do not need one.
  • Two regimes, one account — a Seller Central Europe account can include Amazon.co.uk, but Great Britain needs a separate UK REACH and GB CLP sheet.

What we need from you

  • Complete formulation — every component by CAS number and concentration band.
  • Supplier safety data sheets for the raw materials.
  • Store-by-store listing details — product name, brand and ASIN for each Amazon EU store.
  • Countries of sale, so we know which language versions to prepare.
  • EU supplier details — who places the product on the EU market, with an address and an emergency contact for subsection 1.4.
  • Packaging and test results — container type and volume, propellant if any, flash point data.

Legal framework

  • REACH Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006, Article 31 — suppliers must provide an SDS for hazardous substances and mixtures; Article 31(5) requires an official language of the member state where the product is placed on the market.
  • REACH Annex II, as replaced by Regulation (EU) 2020/878 — the content of the 16 sections, applying from 1 January 2021.
  • CLP Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 — hazard classification and labelling; Article 45 and Annex VIII set out poison centre notification and the UFI.
  • REACH Article 2(6)(b) and CLP Article 1(5)(c) — finished cosmetics are outside the REACH SDS duty and CLP, but Amazon's EU marketplaces may still require a document during review.

An Amazon EU SDS meets the marketplace's request in the EU legal format. Cosmetics placed on the EU market also need a safety report, a Responsible Person and a CPNP notification.

Frequently asked questions

Why is Amazon EU asking for an SDS?

One of Amazon's EU stores has flagged your ASIN as possible dangerous goods. It needs an SDS or exemption sheet before it can decide how the product may be stored, shipped and sold.

Which regulation does an Amazon EU SDS follow?

REACH Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006, with Annex II in the format set by Regulation (EU) 2020/878, and hazard classification under the CLP Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008.

What language does an SDS need for Amazon.de or Amazon.fr?

An official language of the country of sale, under REACH Article 31(5): German for Germany and French for France, unless that member state provides otherwise.

Can I use the same SDS for Amazon.co.uk?

No. Great Britain applies UK REACH and GB CLP, so Amazon.co.uk listings need a separate GB sheet in English, even when one Seller Central Europe account covers both.

Does my product also need a PCN?

Only if it is a non-cosmetic mixture classified for health or physical hazards. Finished cosmetics are outside CLP and need no PCN; we flag whether one applies when we classify your product.

Will the SDS guarantee Amazon approves my ASIN?

No. Each EU store reaches its own classification. Our guarantee applies to the sheet: regulator-ready or we revise it free.

How much does an Amazon EU SDS cost?

From £45 for Standard Delivery (72 hours), £75 for Fast Delivery (48 hours) or £100 for Priority Delivery (24 hours).
