Description
Two named varietals Turkish rose and Amalfi lemon give this composition something concrete to say on a label, and patchouli in the heart rather than the base makes the earthiness arrive within minutes rather than after an hour.
Bergamot and Amalfi lemon open it. Amalfi lemon is rounder and sweeter than ordinary lemon, with less bite, and it suits the richness of the rose that follows better than a sharp citrus would.
Turkish rose, iris and patchouli form the heart. Turkish rose is the deep, jammy, slightly spicy varietal the classic rose of Middle Eastern perfumery and having patchouli alongside it rather than underneath means the fragrance is earthy and floral simultaneously rather than in sequence.
Amber and vanilla close it warm and sweet, softening the patchouli into something comfortable. The result is an oriental rose with an unusually early complexity.
