Description
The standard complaint about fresh fragrance is that it vanishes. Code 1164 is built to answer that: the opening is unmistakably aquatic, but the base is amber and musk rather than light woods, which gives it longevity closer to an oriental than to a typical marine.
Green mandarin opens it greener and more bitter than ordinary mandarin, which keeps the top from being sweet with aquatic notes underneath for the saline lift.
Rosemary, lavender and patchouli make up the heart, a fougère structure that adds herbal backbone. Patchouli this early is unusual in an aquatic and it is the first signal that this fragrance intends to last.
Amber and musk finish it warm and skin-close. The transition from cold marine opening to warm ambered drydown is the whole character of the fragrance, and it is what lets you sell a fresh scent at a premium price.

Which fresh oil lasts longest?
This one. The amber and musk base gives it longevity closer to an oriental than to a typical aquatic, which is unusual in the category.
Is it still recognisably a fresh fragrance?
Yes the opening is clearly aquatic. The difference is the drydown, which stays warm on skin for hours instead of fading.
How does it compare with 1063 and 1213?
1063 is the clean classic aquatic and 1213 the dry sport one; both are lighter. 1164 is the one to choose when a customer says fresh fragrances do not last.
Is it suitable for an eau de parfum rather than a toilette?
Yes, and that is the intended use the ambered base supports the higher concentration where lighter aquatics do not.
Is it seasonal?
Less so than most aquatics. The warm base makes it wearable into autumn.
