About this oil

Description

Aldehydes are the materials that created modern perfumery in the 1920s and they still define what a classical French feminine fragrance smells like. No other oil in this catalogue contains them, which makes 1220 the obvious choice for a heritage or vintage-styled brand.

Aldehydes open it, and they are unmistakable: sparkling, waxy, faintly soapy and slightly metallic, with an effervescent lift that no natural material produces. They make the first seconds of a fragrance feel expensive in a way nothing else does.

Rose, jasmine and lily of the valley build a full floral bouquet underneath. This is the classical structure a broad, layered floral heart rather than a single flower and it is what gives the composition its old-world richness.

Sandalwood, vanilla and musk finish it soft and powdery. The overall effect is formal and grown-up, closer to the fragrances of an earlier era than to anything contemporary, and that is precisely its commercial value: it smells like heritage.

FAQ

Questions about this oil

What are aldehydes?

A family of aroma materials that smell sparkling, waxy, faintly soapy and slightly metallic. They were the defining innovation of 1920s perfumery and no natural material reproduces their effervescent lift.

Why does this smell old-fashioned?

Deliberately so. The aldehydic floral is the classical French structure, and for a heritage or vintage-styled brand that association is the selling point rather than a drawback.

Who is the customer?

A brand with a heritage story, or one selling to a customer who finds contemporary fragrance too sweet and too simple. It is the most formal oil in the catalogue.

Is it suitable for body powder?

Yes, and it is the best oil in the range for it aldehydic florals and powder products belong to the same era and the same aesthetic.

Does it contain declarable allergens?

Yes the floral materials carry several. The allergen declaration lists each with percentages for Annex III labelling.
