Who this Amazon Australia SDS is for
- Who this Amazon Australia SDS is for
- Sellers with an Amazon.com.au listing blocked by a hazmat check
- UK, US and EU brands launching on Amazon Australia
- Sellers whose SDS still uses GHS 3 or a foreign layout
- Sellers whose current SDS is more than five years old
- Brands selling through an Australian importer or distributor
What this Amazon Australia SDS does not include
- Amazon.com.au's classification: its dangerous goods team decides whether the ASIN can be sold or stored through FBA. We are accountable for an accurate Australian SDS, not for that decision.
- Acting as your Australian importer or emergency contact: the SDS must show an Australian address and telephone numbers, which you or your importer provide.
- Testing and consignment paperwork: we do not measure flash points, prepare lithium battery test summaries or complete dangerous goods consignment documents.
- AICIS and cosmetic labelling: introducing industrial chemicals into Australia and cosmetic ingredient labelling are regulated separately and fall outside this service.
- Workplace SDSs beyond Amazon: for distributors and trade customers, see hazardous SDS for USA, Canada and Australia or non-hazardous SDS.
How it works
- Fill our Product Information Document Send the formula, supplier SDSs, Amazon.com.au ASINs and your Australian importer's address and phone numbers.
- GHS 7 classification We classify the product under GHS Revision 7 and check ingredients against Safe Work Australia's Hazardous Chemical Information System (HCIS).
- Australian SDS drafting We complete all 16 sections in English with a dated issue, delivered within 72, 48 or 24 hours.
- Amazon.com.au upload You add the PDF to the dangerous goods record for each ASIN, and Amazon.com.au makes its classification.
What is an Amazon Australia SDS?
An Amazon Australia SDS is an Australian-format safety data sheet, written to the model Work Health and Safety (WHS) Regulations and the GHS Revision 7 classification system, that you upload once Amazon.com.au flags an ASIN for dangerous goods (hazmat) review. Without a document Amazon can classify from, the listing may stay inactive and Australian fulfilment centres can turn stock away.
Australian sheets have practical requirements that UK, EU and US sheets rarely meet: an Australian address and business telephone number for the manufacturer or importer, Australian emergency contact information, and a review at least every five years. We prepare an Australian version from your formula so those details are right from the start.
Amazon.com.au's dangerous goods review and Australian SDS rules
Products Amazon.com.au commonly checks:
- Flammables — perfumes, body mists, nail polish and remover, essential oils.
- Aerosols and corrosives — spray products, some cleaners and drain treatments.
- Listings that read as hazardous — titles and attributes can trigger a check on their own.
What Amazon.com.au needs from you:
- A document for every flagged ASIN — an SDS, or an exemption sheet for products without hazardous chemicals, uploaded in Seller Central.
- A current sheet — Australian law requires a review at least every five years, so an older sheet is a weak basis for classification.
- The same identity as the listing — product name and brand that mirror the Amazon.com.au detail page.
When the review ends:
Amazon.com.au decides whether the ASIN is dangerous goods. If it is, storage, delivery options or FBA eligibility may be restricted. You can ask Amazon to reconsider a classification you believe is wrong.
What Australian law requires on the sheet:
- GHS Revision 7 — workplace hazardous chemicals manufactured or imported from 1 January 2023 must be classified and documented under GHS 7; the GHS 3 transition ended on 31 December 2022.
- English — the SDS must be written in English.
- Australian details — the name, Australian address and business telephone number of the manufacturer or importer, plus Australian emergency contact information.
- Review date — the date of last review or preparation, with a review at least every five years.
- HCIS check — we compare ingredients with the classifications in Safe Work Australia's Hazardous Chemical Information System.
Where the rules apply:
The model WHS Regulations apply in every Australian jurisdiction except Victoria, which sets equivalent SDS duties, including the five-year review, in its Occupational Health and Safety Regulations 2017. The legal duty to prepare an SDS depends on whether the product is a hazardous chemical; a product that is not hazardous may still be asked for one by Amazon.com.au as part of its review.
What we need from you
- Full ingredient list — percentages or ranges, and CAS numbers where available.
- Supplier SDSs for your raw materials.
- Your Amazon.com.au listing — the product name and brand as shown, plus each ASIN under review.
- Australian contacts — importer or manufacturer name, Australian street address, business phone and emergency number.
- Pack and test information — pack volume, any pressurised container, and measured flash point if you have one.
Legal framework
- Model WHS Regulations, regulation 330 and Schedule 7 — manufacturers and importers of hazardous chemicals must prepare an SDS in English, with Australian contact details, and review it at least every five years.
- GHS Revision 7 — required for workplace hazardous chemicals manufactured or imported from 1 January 2023.
- Model Code of Practice: Preparation of Safety Data Sheets for Hazardous Chemicals — Safe Work Australia's guidance on the 16 sections.
- Victoria: Occupational Health and Safety Regulations 2017 — equivalent SDS duties, including review at least every five years.
- Australian Dangerous Goods Code — the basis for Section 14 transport information.
An Amazon Australia SDS meets Amazon.com.au's request in the Australian WHS format. It does not replace AICIS obligations or cosmetic labelling requirements.

Frequently asked questions
Why is Amazon.com.au asking for an SDS?
Your ASIN has been flagged for dangerous goods review on Amazon Australia. Amazon will not finalise the listing or accept FBA stock until an SDS or exemption sheet lets it classify the product.
Which rules does an Amazon Australia SDS follow?
The model Work Health and Safety Regulations (regulation 330 and Schedule 7), GHS Revision 7 classification and Safe Work Australia's code of practice on preparing SDSs.
Is GHS 7 mandatory in Australia?
Yes. Since 1 January 2023, workplace hazardous chemicals manufactured or imported in Australia must be classified and documented under GHS 7. Sheets still on GHS 3 should be updated.
Can I use my UK, EU or US SDS on Amazon.com.au?
Not as it stands. Australian SDSs need an Australian address, business phone and emergency contact, plus GHS 7 classification — details foreign sheets usually lack.
How often must an Australian SDS be reviewed?
At least every five years, and sooner if the information changes. The sheet must show the date it was last reviewed or prepared.
Will Amazon Australia definitely approve my product?
No. Amazon.com.au makes the final classification. We stand behind the document: it is regulator-ready, or we revise it free.
How much does an Amazon Australia SDS cost?
From £45 for 72-hour Standard Delivery; Fast Delivery (48 hours) is £75 and Priority Delivery (24 hours) is £100.
