Quick answer
An Amazon UK SDS is a GB-format safety data sheet, laid out in the 16 sections of UK REACH Annex II and classified under GB CLP, which Amazon.co.uk requests during dangerous goods (hazmat) review so it can classify the ASIN. Prices begin at £45, and the 24-hour Priority option is the fastest.
What's included in your Amazon UK SDS
| Document | What it is |
|---|---|
| GB CLP hazard classification | GB CLP hazard classes with matching hazard (H) and precautionary (P) phrases, pictograms and signal word |
| 16-section SDS to UK REACH Annex II | Written in English, with the GB supplier and emergency contact details you give us |
| Section 14 transport entry | UN number, class and packing group where the product is regulated for transport, or a 'not regulated' statement |
| Upload-ready PDF for Seller Central | Trade name and brand matched to your Amazon.co.uk detail page |
| Documented non-hazardous outcome | If the formula meets no GB CLP hazard criteria, the SDS records that conclusion for Amazon's reviewers |
Who this Amazon UK SDS is for
- Sellers whose Amazon.co.uk listing is inactive pending hazmat review
- FBA sellers with UK inbound shipments on hold for a hazmat check
- Brands holding only an EU, US or supplier SDS for a GB listing
- Perfume, aerosol, nail and essential oil brands launching on Amazon UK
- Importers and private-label sellers placing products on the GB market
What this Amazon UK SDS does not include
- Amazon's decision: Amazon.co.uk's dangerous goods team sets the final classification and any storage or FBA limits. We are responsible for the accuracy of the SDS, not for the marketplace outcome.
- Northern Ireland or EU versions: products placed on the market in Northern Ireland, or sold on Amazon.de, .fr, .it or .es, fall under EU REACH and EU CLP — see Amazon EU SDS.
- Physical testing: we work from your formula and existing data; flash point measurements and lithium battery UN 38.3 test summaries must come from a laboratory.
- Cosmetic safety and notification: a finished cosmetic sold in Great Britain also needs a CPSR and an SCPN notification.
- SDSs for trade customers beyond Amazon: for distributors and B2B supply, use our hazardous SDS for UK & EU or non-hazardous SDS for UK & EU.
How it works
- Fill our Product Information Document List every ingredient with its percentage, attach supplier SDSs and give the Amazon.co.uk ASINs that were flagged.
- GB CLP assessment Our specialists check each ingredient and the finished mixture against the GB CLP hazard criteria.
- Drafting in English We complete all 16 UK REACH Annex II sections and send the PDF within 72, 48 or 24 hours.
- Upload in Seller Central You add the SDS to each flagged Amazon.co.uk ASIN and wait for Amazon's classification decision.
What is an Amazon UK SDS?
An Amazon UK SDS is a safety data sheet written to Great Britain's chemical rules — UK REACH and GB CLP — for upload in Seller Central once Amazon.co.uk opens a dangerous goods (hazmat) review on an ASIN. Until a usable document is on file, the listing can stay inactive and FBA inbound stock can be held.
Since 1 January 2021, Great Britain has run its own versions of REACH and CLP, with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) acting as the Agency for both. A sheet written for the EU, or an OSHA sheet from a US supplier, may carry classifications and supplier details that do not reflect the GB position. We write a GB-specific SDS from your formula so it matches both the law and your Amazon.co.uk listing.
Amazon UK dangerous goods review: triggers, uploads and GB rules
What triggers a review on Amazon.co.uk:
- Product type — perfumes, aerosols, nail polish and remover, essential oils, and alcohol- or solvent-based liquids.
- Listing wording — terms in the title, bullet points or attributes can flag an ASIN even when the formula is harmless.
What to upload:
- An SDS or Amazon's exemption sheet for each flagged ASIN. Parent and child variations may each need a document.
- A sheet that names the product as listed — the trade name and brand should match the Amazon.co.uk detail page.
- A GB sheet rather than a generic one — supplier sheets that do not match the product or listing can be rejected.
After you upload:
Amazon then rules the ASIN non-dangerous or dangerous goods; the second outcome can limit storage, shipping or FBA eligibility in the UK. If you think the result is wrong, Seller Central lets you dispute the classification.
Why the SDS must be GB-specific:
- GB CLP — Great Britain now adopts GHS changes independently of the EU, so GB and EU classifications can diverge.
- English — UK REACH Article 31(5) requires the SDS to be supplied in English.
- Northern Ireland — EU REACH and EU CLP continue to apply there, so NI supply needs the EU format.
- Cosmetics — finished cosmetics sit outside the UK REACH SDS duty and GB CLP, so for a cosmetic we apply the GB CLP criteria to give Amazon a classification it can rely on.
The 16 sections we complete:

- Other information
What we need from you
- Full formula — every ingredient with its percentage or range.
- Ingredient safety data sheets issued by your raw-material suppliers, where available.
- Amazon.co.uk details — product name, brand and the flagged ASINs, exactly as listed.
- GB supplier details — the name of the UK company placing the product on the market, its address and the emergency number to print in Section 1.
- Pack and test data — container size, whether it is an aerosol, and any flash point results.
Legal framework
- UK REACH, Article 31 — suppliers of hazardous substances and mixtures must provide a safety data sheet; Article 31(5) requires it to be supplied in English.
- UK REACH, Annex II — sets the content of the 16 SDS sections in Great Britain.
- GB CLP (Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 as it applies in Great Britain) — governs hazard classification, H and P statements, pictograms and signal words; HSE is the GB CLP Agency.
- UK REACH Article 2(6)(b) and GB CLP Article 1(5)(c) — finished cosmetic products are outside the SDS duty and CLP classification, so an SDS for a cosmetic on Amazon UK is a marketplace requirement rather than a legal one.
- Northern Ireland — EU REACH and EU CLP continue to apply to products placed on the NI market.
An Amazon UK SDS answers Amazon.co.uk's document request in the GB legal format. A finished cosmetic still needs its own safety report and SCPN notification.

Frequently asked questions
Why is Amazon UK asking for an SDS?
Because Amazon.co.uk has placed your ASIN in dangerous goods (hazmat) review. Amazon cannot classify the product — or release the listing and FBA stock — until it has an SDS or its exemption sheet.
What law does an Amazon UK SDS follow?
UK REACH Annex II for the 16-section layout and GB CLP for hazard classification. Both are Great Britain's own versions of the EU rules, in force since 1 January 2021, with HSE as the Agency.
Can I upload my EU SDS to Amazon.co.uk?
Not reliably. GB CLP classifications can diverge from the EU's, and UK REACH requires the sheet in English with the GB supplier's details. A GB-specific sheet avoids those mismatches.
Do cosmetics need an SDS in the UK?
Not by law. Finished cosmetics are outside the UK REACH SDS duty and GB CLP. Amazon.co.uk can still ask for one during a hazmat review, which is exactly when this service applies.
What if my product is not hazardous?
We still assess it against GB CLP. If it meets no hazard criteria, the SDS records that result, giving Amazon a documented basis for clearing the ASIN.
Does an Amazon UK SDS guarantee my listing goes live?
No. Amazon.co.uk alone decides the classification. Our compliance guarantee — regulator-ready or we revise it free applies to the SDS, not to Amazon's verdict.
How long does an Amazon UK SDS take and what does it cost?
£45 for 72-hour Standard Delivery, £75 for 48-hour Fast Delivery or £100 for 24-hour Priority Delivery, counted from receipt of your complete information.
