About this oil

Description

Iris is the most expensive and most respected material in perfumery, and a well-built iris accord is what separates a niche-positioned brand from a mass-market one. Code 1135 pairs it with cocoa and vetiver an unusual vetiver iris combination and the most distinctive oil in our unisex range.

The opening top note is iris with bergamot: powdery, cool, slightly metallic in the way good iris should be, lifted just enough by citrus to avoid austerity the velvety softness of iris is unmistakable from the first minute on skin. Lavender and amber in the heart add aromatic warmth and stop the composition reading as purely cerebral. The base notes are where 1135 becomes memorable cocoa gives a dry, dusty bitterness rather than sweetness, the vetiver essence adds earth drawn from the roots of vetiver itself, and cedar provides the backbone. The result is a fragrance built from natural ingredient inspiration that smells considered and expensive.

This is the oil to choose when you are building a niche or artisan line and need something a customer cannot find on a high-street shelf. It is less obviously commercial than a fruity floral, and that is the point particularly strong in an eau de parfum concentration, where the drydown has time to develop fully.

Compliance documents supplied with this oil

Every bulk order from Phoenix Cosmetic Safety ships with the paperwork you need to put the finished product on the UK or EU market not just the oil.

  • IFRA Conformity Certificate the maximum safe dosage for your product category, issued for the batch you buy.
  • Allergen declaration every declarable allergen with its percentage, so your label meets Annex III as amended by Regulation (EU) 2023/1545.
  • Safety Data Sheet (SDS) 16-section GHS document for your carrier, warehouse and Amazon hazmat review.
  • Technical data sheet flashpoint, density, solubility, appearance and recommended dosage.

Need the finished-product documents too? We are a cosmetic regulatory consultancy as well as a supplier: we prepare the Cosmetic Product Safety Report (CPSR), Product Information File and SCPN/CPNP notification for the perfume you make with this oil. No other bulk oil supplier does both.

FAQ

Questions about this oil

What does an iris fragrance smell like?

Iris is powdery, cool and slightly earthy often described as smelling of violet, suede and fresh face powder. In 1135 it is paired with cocoa and vetiver, which makes it dry and earthy rather than sweet.

Is 1135 suitable for a niche or artisan brand?

Yes, it is the most distinctive oil in our unisex range. Iris and cocoa is an unusual pairing that customers will not recognise from mass-market fragrance, which is what a niche positioning needs.

Is it masculine or feminine?

Neither. The powdery iris and the dry cocoa-vetiver base sit comfortably on anyone, which is why it is classed as unisex.

What concentration should I use?

18–25% in an alcohol-based eau de parfum, 25–30% for an extrait, and 1–3% in rinse-off products.

Which documents ship with the oil?

IFRA conformity certificate, allergen declaration with percentages, Safety Data Sheet and technical data sheet.

Can you handle the CPSR and notification for my finished fragrance?

Yes. We prepare the CPSR, the Product Information File and the SCPN or CPNP notification for the perfume you make with this oil.
